Your cottage is located on Governors Run Road just a few steps to the beach and pier on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a short walk down to the beach so bring comfortable sand/walking shoes. There are miles of beach to walk on and depending on the tides you may have to wade in the water. In the summer it is wonderful but if you are staying with us in cooler months you may want to bring waders or short boots so you can go further.

All bath towels, linens, and blankets are provided. You will need to bring your own beach towels, blanket or mats. Sand chairs are available but you may want to bring other beach chairs if you are a serious power lounger. Don’t forget the sun screen or umbrellas if you need a break from the rays. Inner tubes, floats, beach toys, and sand buckets make it more fun!

A midsummer plague that everyone deals with on the Bay is jelly fish. If we could get rid of them we could but....April, May, and June and parts of July are the prime swimming months. The little buggers usually arrive mid July and in better years not at all. It is better to plan on them than not. Blow up pools on the beach are great for kids and adult toes. Wading and walking on the beach are unaffected. They usually leave in September when the water temperature cools.

Some basic toiletries are provided, including soap and toilet paper but bring reinforcements for longer stays or generous users.

The kitchen is fully equipped for the vacation cook. A microwave, coffee pot, blender, toaster, toaster oven, crab pot, gas oven and cook top are provided, as well as, all dishes, pots and pans. Just bring your own food. Sorry, but we do not have a dish washer so prepare to wash dishes the old fashioned way! Dish liquid provided. Paper plates and cups make the designated dishwasher happy.

A small outdoor grill is available, bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. There is a larger grill on the beach. The informal community rule is that you must invite everyone downwind of the grill for dinner!

Two pizza places deliver plus one Chinese carry out so we are not too far from civilization! Names and numbers are posted in the cottage.

You will pass three major grocery stores coming through Prince Frederick (six miles north of Governors Run) so you may want to stop there on your way through. We also have a small convenience store 3 miles south in St. Leonard if you need to pick up quick things.

Fishing off the pier is permitted with proper fishing license only. The DNR police regularly patrol the area and the fines are steep if caught. A license can be purchased in local sporting goods stores for under $15. Rockfish, bluefish, spot and croaker are the local catch. Crabbing is permitted without license as long as the catch does not exceed one bushel per day (full time job) and each crab exceeds 5 inches from tip to tip on shell. Bring your own crab net (the longer the better). This is a favorite with the kids. Nets available locally if you are landlocked.

Charter fishing boats go out of Solomons Island and Chesapeake Beach for the serious fisher person.

There are several restaurants in the area ranging from cheap and good to pricey and great. Information will be available in the cottage and we will be happy to make recommendations.

There is a phone available in the cottage for local calls. The number is 410-586-1387. Bring a cell phone or a phone card for long distance calls.

Pets are not allowed in the cottage. So Lady and Fluffy must stay home or go to grandma’s.

The cottage is non-smoking. Breath the clean salt air and live longer!

The cottage has one window air conditioner heat pump. It keeps the cottage reasonably cool. Paddle fans are in the livingroom, and in both bedrooms.

There is an indoor shower and even a shower on the pier, but there is no bathtub in the cottage.

A grill and picnic table are available on the beach. Fires are allowed on the beach in designated areas. Plenty of driftwood is available. Beach fires must be accompanied at all times and extinguished properly.

A TV with basic cable is available, if you must. A VCR is also available. Bring your favorite movies or rent from Blockbusters or Blair Video in Prince Frederick. The cottage also has a radio, cassette, and 8 track player (!).

There are several good antique stores in the area and we have the Chesapeake Auction House just minutes away with auctions most Friday and Saturday nights. Check them out at www.chesapeakeauctionhouse.com

Bring a good book, reading on the wicker chair in the back bedroom is a favorite past-time.

There are miles of hiking trails adjacent to the property as part of the American Chestnut Land Trust. Hiking maps are available.

Calvert County is great for the serious bicycling enthusiast. Suggested routes and maps are available upon request. The roads in our community are a bit steep for little legs though.

A playground is available within eye shot of the cottage. It is reported to be "real fun" by little people.

The boat ramp and water depth are great for boats less than 16 feet. A four wheel drive is recommended for the slippery slope. There are two public boat ramps in the county for larger boats.
