The Cottages of Governors Run

1.  Where is Governors Run?

Governors Run is located in Port Republic, Calvert County, Maryland. The community is approximately 6 miles south of the county seat - Prince Frederick, on State Highway 509 (Governors Run Road). It's also about 45 miles south of the capital of Maryland and home of the US Naval Academy, Annapolis. We are also located just 14 miles north of historic Solomons Island, home of the Calvert County Marine Museum.

2. How can I find out if a cottage is available?

You can either call us (877)586-1793 or e-mail us: Info@BayCottages.com or you can visit our web page and see which dates are open. Just go to the specific cottage page and you'll see a link to their availability.

3. How do I reserve a cottage?

You should first contact us (see #2 above) to see if the cottage that you are interested in is available. If it is, a deposit of $200 (per cottage, per week) can be mailed to us as soon as possible to hold the cottage. The rental balance is due at least 30 days prior to your arrival. The reservation is not complete until the full rental payment has been received 30 days prior to your arrival. For visits longer than seven nights the deposit is $200 per week.

4.  What type of payment do you accept? And what's your refund policy?

We are a small "cottage industry" and only accept personal or business checks at this time. In the future we may be able to accept credit cards. Cancellations affect us greatly, therefore if you cancel within 30 days of your arrival you will forfeit the deposit and all payments. If cancelation is made greater than 30 days, you'll be refunded all but $50 of all funds received.. Payment must be sent to: The Cottages of Governors Run, 2847 Governors Run Road, Port Republic, MD 20676.

Non-Sufficient Fund Charge: A $100 fee for all checks that are returned by the bank will be assessed. This fee covers our costs associated with your transaction.

5.  What is there to do?

Just about anything that you can't do in a big city you can do here! We don't have sidewalks, don't have an indoor mall, don't even have a major hardware store (yet), but what we lack in commercialism, we make up for with nature. If you get tired of walking the beach, swimming, fishing, visiting the Calvert County Marine Museum or having a night-time beach fire, take a walk on the adjoining American Chestnut Land Trusts preserved land. Marked trails, within the nearly 3,000 acres, wind through 12 miles of the nicest wooded areas in southern Maryland.

6.  Where do most of your visitors come from?

We've had visitors from the foreign countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, England and Holland! More close to home we've had guests from our great neighbor to the northwest - British Columbia, Canada! Then there were families from Arizona, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. But the majority of our guests visit us from our adjacent states.

Over the years we've hosted over 200 families. Our latest research indicates that our guests come from 27 states and 4 foreign countries. Leading the states - 24% come from Maryland; 16% from Pennsylvania; 14% from Virginia; 7% from New York and New Jersey rounds out the top five with 5%. We've also hosted guests from Holland, England, the Czech Republic and Germany.

218 families can't be wrong! (as of August 2006).

Most of 2004 guests were from Maryland (28%) and Pennsylvania, once again followed with 16%. We also had guests from 14 other states and some great guests from England! In 2003 our guests visited us from: Maryland (21%), Pennsylvania (14%), New York (12%) and Virginia (12%). In 2002 we hosted guests from: Maryland (23%), Pennsylvania (20%), Virginia (13%), New Jersey (8%), and New York (6%). In 2001 our guests were from Pennsylvania (34%), Maryland (26%), Virginia (13%) and New Jersey (10%).In the year 2000 our guests came from: Maryland (40%), Virginia (21%), Pennsylvania (18%) and Washington DC (5%).  And when comparing the increase in visitors from Pennsylvania in 2000 vs. 2001, we might just be able to suggest that those folks from Pennsylvania have finally figured out how tasty our crabs down here can be!
